How to Care for Your Linen (Hint: Less Is More)

Complete linen care guide — how to wash, dry, iron, and store your linen clothing so it lasts for decades.

How to Care for Your Linen (Hint: Less Is More)

Linen care is simple: wash less, worry less, enjoy more.

Wash cold. Tumble low or hang dry. Skip the iron unless you want to — we never do. Linen gets softer with every wash, more beautiful with every wear. It doesn't need preserving. It needs living in. That's the whole point.

How do you wash linen clothing without shrinking it?

Use cold or lukewarm water (30°C maximum) with a gentle detergent. Avoid bleach and fabric softener — linen doesn't need softener because it softens naturally with each wash. Our linen is pre-washed during production, so shrinkage is minimal. If you're concerned, the first wash on a gentle cycle will settle the fibres. After that, your garment's dimensions are stable.

Should you iron linen clothes?

Only if you want to. We genuinely don't. Linen's natural creasing is part of its character — it signals that you're wearing a natural fibre, not a synthetic. If you do prefer a crisper look, iron while slightly damp using a medium-hot setting. A quick steam works beautifully too. But we think the wrinkles are the best part.

How do you store linen garments between seasons?

Fold and store in a cool, dry place. Linen is naturally resistant to moths and mildew, so you don't need cedar blocks or garment bags (though they don't hurt). Avoid hanging heavy linen pieces long-term — the weight can stretch the shoulders. Folding with tissue paper between layers prevents permanent creasing if that concerns you.

How long does linen clothing last?

With basic care, linen garments last 15-20 years or more. Linen fibre is 30% stronger than cotton when dry and even stronger when wet. It's one of the few fabrics that genuinely improves with age. The piece you buy today will be softer, more comfortable, and more beautiful in five years than it is now.
