A cocoon coat in red quilted cotton — wide through the shoulders, loose through the body, with a drop-shoulder line that sits well off the joint. The oversized boucle cocoon coat is for wearing over everything on a cold-weather journey: long trains, open platforms, any day that calls for serious warmth without fuss. Sizes XS–4XL, with custom sizing available at no extra charge. Free worldwide shipping included.
The piece
The brief for this coat was simple: make something that holds without squeezing, that keeps you warm without asking you to perform warmth. Quilted cotton was the answer — not bouclé's usual wool-mix cousin, but a fabric with its own looped texture and interior structure, so the coat carries itself even when you don't feel like carrying much. The cocoon shape came from that same thinking. Larah cut the drop shoulder low and let the body widen from there, no belt loops, no nipped waist, nothing requiring a particular kind of body to make it work. What it does require is presence — and that, it returns to you tenfold.
Material
The fabric is quilted cotton with a looped, textured surface that reads visually similar to traditional bouclé but with cotton's lighter hand. It has noticeable structure, holding the cocoon shape without internal interfacing. Against the skin, the inner side sits smooth rather than scratchy. The coat is available in red; additional colourways are offered seasonally — contact the atelier to ask what is currently in stock.
Fit & sizing
Larah is 175 cm and wears size S in the photos. Between sizes? Send your measurements in the order notes — we'll cut to fit at no extra cost. The drop shoulder sits several centimetres below the natural shoulder point, so the coat layers easily over chunky knitwear. The cocoon body does not taper at the hem, which means it works over wide-leg trousers and full skirts without bunching.
Styling
Wear it over the wide linen pants and a close-knit jumper for long-haul flights, where warmth and ease both matter. It pairs naturally with the linen pinafore dress as a layer for cold-weather weddings — the coat's volume balances the dress's drape without competing. For studio days, pull it on over the turtleneck blouse and leave it open. Occasion anchors: winter travel, cold-weather occasions with a dress code, and unhurried working days. On milder days, layer it open over the knitted kimono maxi dress for a head-to-toe look that's still warm enough for a cold morning.
Care
Hand wash cold or take it to a dry cleaner — quilted cotton responds well to both. Do not tumble dry; lay the coat flat to dry so the quilted structure holds its shape. Do not iron directly. If creases set in from packing, a garment steamer at medium distance will release them. Keep away from bleach entirely.
Frequently asked questions
I'm between sizes. Can you make the coat to my measurements?
Yes — every piece at Souls In Clothes is cut to order. Add your bust, waist, hip, and height measurements in the order notes at checkout and we'll adjust the pattern at no extra cost. If you're unsure which measurements to take, message the atelier before ordering and Larah will guide you through it.
How long does production take before the coat ships?
Each coat is made after your order is placed. Current production time is listed on the product page and updated regularly. If you have a specific date you need it by — a trip, an event — mention it in your order notes and we'll confirm whether it's achievable before we begin cutting.
You mention free worldwide shipping — does that include customs and import fees?
Shipping is free to all destinations. For US customers, customs and import duties are fully covered — you pay only the product price. For other regions, duties may apply depending on local import rules; the atelier recommends checking your country's threshold before ordering if this is a concern.
Can I return the coat if the colour or fit isn't what I expected?
Because every coat is made to order, we're unable to accept returns based on size, colour, or fabric preference. If you have any doubts before purchasing — about the red shade, the fabric handle, or how the sizing runs — please message us first. We'd far rather answer questions upfront than have you receive something that doesn't suit.
Will the quilted cotton fabric pill or lose its texture over time?
Looped and textured fabrics can develop minor surface pills with friction, particularly under bag straps or at cuffs. Hand washing rather than machine washing reduces this significantly. A fabric comb or lint shaver will restore the surface if pilling appears after extended wear.
